Overview
QuillBot is a writing suite built around one core job: rewriting text without changing what it says.
You paste a passage, choose a mode - Standard, Fluency, Formal, Simple, Creative, Shorten, Expand or a custom mode - and it returns a rewritten version you can work through sentence by sentence.
Around that paraphraser QuillBot has assembled a full editing stack: a grammar and spelling checker, a summarizer, a translator, a citation generator, a plagiarism checker and an AI detector, plus newer creative and conversion tools including an AI image generator, a presentation creator, a social media post writer, a background remover and PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint converters.
It runs in the browser and ships as Chrome, Edge and Safari extensions, a Word add-in, macOS and Windows apps, and iOS and Android apps, and the company states that 35+ million writers across 180+ countries use it.
Use Cases
Repurposing a single source article into blog, newsletter, LinkedIn and ad variations
Tightening and clarifying drafts from freelance writers before publishing
Condensing long reports, webinars and transcripts into executive summaries
Screening drafts for plagiarism and AI-generated passages before publication
Producing short social copy and translating it for local markets
Who Is This For
Content marketers repurposing one asset across several channels
Blog and SEO editors who need faster copy cleanup before publishing
Agencies editing client drafts at volume on a fixed budget
Social media managers writing short-form copy quickly
Non-native English writers who need a fluency pass on their copy
Key Features
Mode-based Paraphraser
Rewrite copy in Standard, Fluency, Formal, Simple, Creative, Shorten, Expand or custom modes - so one article can be resequenced for a blog, a newsletter and an ad without re-reporting it.
Grammar, Clarity and Tone Checks
Real-time grammar, spelling and punctuation fixes plus full-sentence rewrites and tone feedback, which is where most freelancer drafts are cleaned up before publishing.
AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker
Two originality tools sit in the same subscription: an AI-content detector for assessing drafts and a plagiarism checker for verifying copy before it goes live.
Summarizer, Translator and Citations
Condense long reports and transcripts, translate copy for local markets, and generate and format citations for data-led content - useful when a single research asset has to feed several channels.
Channel and Creative Tools
Social media post writer, presentation creator, AI image generator, background remover and PDF/Office converters extend the suite from editing into asset creation.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free plan that is genuinely usable for light editing, with no credit card required
- Works where marketers already write: Chrome, Edge and Safari extensions, a Word add-in, macOS and Windows apps and mobile
- Eight paraphrase modes (including Shorten, Expand and Custom) are far more practical for channel repurposing than one-click rewriting
- Originality checks, summarizer, translator and citation tools bundled into one subscription instead of four
- Published pricing on the upgrade page is clear: monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual options
Cons
- The AI humanizer sits beside a real editorial risk: using it to disguise authorship is not a substitute for original reporting, and QuillBot cannot verify the rewritten facts
- The free tier is limited - heavier rewriting, longer inputs and the advanced originality and humanizing features need Premium (listed from $19.95/month, or $99.95/year)
- AI-detector verdicts are probabilistic, so a 'human' or 'AI' result should never be treated as proof about how a draft was produced

The mode selector is what separates QuillBot from single-purpose rewriters: Shorten and Expand are the two modes content marketers reach for most when one asset has to feed a blog, a newsletter and paid social. The caveat we would repeat to any client is that paraphrase output inherits every error in the source, and detector results are not proof.
