Short version: we earn money when readers buy tools through some of our links, and we have built the rules below so that this never changes what we tell you about a tool.
We may earn a commission from some links
Some outbound links on this Site — to tool websites, pricing pages, and signup pages — are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy a subscription or plan, the vendor may pay us a commission. You pay exactly the same price you would pay by going to the vendor directly. In many cases you pay less, because affiliate links often carry the vendor's best available discount.
Commissions never buy a better review
No vendor can pay for a higher score, a positive verdict, a "best" label, inclusion in a comparison, or the removal of a criticism. Tools we rate poorly stay rated poorly regardless of whether they run an affiliate programme. Several tools on the Site have no affiliate programme at all and are included purely because they belong in the comparison.
We tell you when a page has affiliate links
Pages that contain affiliate links carry a disclosure notice near the top of the content. Affiliate links are also marked with rel="sponsored" in the page markup where technically possible, which tells search engines and assistive technology that the link is commercial.
Advertising is separated from editorial
This Site may display third-party advertising, including through Google AdSense. Advertisers do not see our content before publication, cannot influence our verdicts, and have no input into which tools we cover. Display advertisements are labelled and are not designed to look like editorial recommendations, navigation, or download buttons.
Editorial ratings are ours, not user ratings
Where a page shows a numeric score, it is an editorial rating assigned by our team based on the criteria described on our How We Test page. It is not a user-review average and is not presented as one. We do not publish star ratings aggregated from reviews we did not collect.
Corrections are welcome
If a commission-bearing tool is described inaccurately, we want to know even — especially — when the error flatters that tool. Send corrections to the address below and we will investigate.
