Overview
Nightwatch is a rank tracker that added AI visibility instead of bolting a separate product beside it.
On the search side it checks keywords daily across Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps, in any location or language from a network the vendor puts at 107,000+ locations in more than 190 countries, and it keeps three years of SERP history so a position can be compared with what the page looked like when it held it.
On the AI side it tracks prompts and answers across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overviews, storing the responses so a brand can see whether it is mentioned, how it is described, which sources the answer cites, and whether that description is positive.
Competitors are tracked side by side with your own domains on every plan, with 5, 10 or 15 rivals per site depending on tier, and integrations pull sessions and conversions from Google Analytics so rankings can be read next to traffic rather than in isolation. The feature released most recently is Citation Intelligence, and it is the clearest statement of the product's thesis: ranking and citation are treated as one system.
The framing on the site is that AI assistants do not browse - ChatGPT retrieves from Bing's index, Gemini and AI Overviews retrieve what ranks in Google, and Perplexity blends several indexes - so a position lost is a citation about to be lost, and Nightwatch claims that the same join between a ranking change and a citation change is something the AI-only tools cannot show because they have no ranking history.
Treat the 'only tool' claim as vendor positioning and the underlying logic as checkable.
The rest of the toolkit is included on every tier rather than paywalled: Content Studio for drafting and scoring content against page one, Keyword Research with search volumes, Prompt Research to see which prompts surface the brand, Site Audit, a Search Simulator for unbiased results from any location or device, and an SEO MCP server so Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT can query live rankings and run audits.
The dashboard is organised as Keyword Rankings, AI Performance, Prompt Analysis, SEO Agent, LLM Tracking and Intelligence, and is designed so the overnight refresh tells you what moved and which page to open first.
The vendor states 10,000+ SEO teams and a 4.8 G2 rating. Pricing was readable on nightwatch.io/pricing on 28 September 2026 and is structured around keywords rather than people.
Billed yearly: Starter €79 per month (€948 a year, listed as saving €240) with 500 keywords, 50 AI prompts, 5 websites, 100 keyword researches, 100 SEO Agent credits and 1,000 audit pages a month; Professional €159 (€1,908 a year, saving €480) with 2,500 keywords, 150 AI prompts, 25 websites, 10 AI answers per prompt set, 500 keyword researches, 1,000 Agent credits and 10,000 audit pages; Agency €399 (€4,788 a year, saving €1,200) with 7,500 keywords, 500 AI prompts, 100 websites, 2,500 keyword researches, 2,500 Agent credits and 100,000 audit pages.
Enterprise is custom from 20,000 keywords.
Yearly billing is described as two months free, every plan carries a 14-day trial with no credit card, there are no per-seat fees, and SSO, custom data retention and dedicated infrastructure are Enterprise-only.
The trade-offs are real: prices are quoted in euros, there is no free plan, AI answers are metered in the low thousands per month so heavy prompt monitoring costs more, and Content Studio and Site Audit are competent companions rather than replacements for a dedicated writing or crawling tool.
Use Cases
Tracking daily keyword positions for client sites and reporting movement without paying per seat
Monitoring whether the brand is cited in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity answers and how it is described
Linking a ranking drop to a drop in AI citations so the fix targets the right page
Running competitor comparisons per site to see which rival took a lost position
Letting an AI assistant query live rankings and run audits through the SEO MCP server
Who Is This For
SEO teams that need daily rank tracking across several engines and locations
Agencies reporting rankings and AI visibility to clients without per-seat costs
Content and SEO managers whose buyers now search inside AI assistants as well as Google
In-house marketers who want ranking data joined to Google Analytics sessions
Teams already querying their stack through MCP clients such as Claude or Cursor
Key Features
Daily rank tracking in 107,000+ locations
Keywords are checked every day across Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps in any language, with three years of SERP history retained, on-demand checks, Google Analytics integration and competitor domains tracked side by side (5, 10 or 15 per site).
AI visibility across six platforms
Prompts are tracked in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overviews, with stored answers, sentiment of how the brand is described, citation analysis showing which sources are cited, and Prompt Research to find the prompts you already appear in.
Citation Intelligence joins rankings to AI answers
The vendor claims Nightwatch is the only platform that reports which ranking change moved your citations in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity - the join between search position and AI citation, rather than two exports to reconcile by hand.
SEO MCP server and Ask AI on every plan
An MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or any MCP-compatible client query live rankings, run site audits and pull reports from chat; Ask AI answers questions about the data in the dashboard, and Starter includes MCP access rather than reserving it for enterprise tiers.
Content Studio, Keyword Research, Site Audit, Search Simulator
All six tools ship on every tier, including the cheapest: Content Studio to research, draft and score content against page one, Keyword Research with volumes and ideas, Site Audit crawling 1,000 to 100,000 pages, and a Search Simulator for unbiased results from any location or device.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Verified on nightwatch.io/pricing, 28 September 2026: Starter €79, Professional €159 and Agency €399 per month billed yearly (€948, €1,908 and €4,788 a year, saving €240, €480 and €1,200) with a 14-day trial and no free tier
- Unlimited user seats on every plan and no per-seat fees - the vendor compares this explicitly with per-seat pricing elsewhere, which matters for agencies and client reporting accounts
- All six tools (Content Studio, Keyword Research, Prompt Research, SEO MCP server, Site Audit, Search Simulator) are included from the cheapest tier upward; only volumes change
- Search tracking and AI visibility live in one account, so a ranking movement can be read against AI citations instead of reconciling two exports
- Three years of SERP history, daily checks across six engines, 107,000+ locations in 190+ countries, and white-label reporting plus Looker Studio and API access from Professional upward
Cons
- There is no free plan - only a 14-day trial - and prices are quoted in euros, which adds currency friction for teams budgeting in dollars
- AI tracking is metered closely at the bottom: 50 prompts and roughly 1,500 AI answers a month on Starter, rising to 500 prompts and 15,000 answers on Agency, so prompt-heavy research needs the higher tiers
- Keyword allowances are the real ceiling (500, 2,500, 7,500) and Enterprise is required above 20,000 keywords, or for SSO, custom data retention and dedicated infrastructure
- Content Studio, the SEO Agent and Site Audit are supporting tools rather than best-in-class ones - the ranking and AI-visibility data is the reason to buy, and dedicated content or crawling platforms do those jobs better
- The claim that Nightwatch is the only platform linking ranking changes to citation changes is vendor positioning; the mechanism it describes (AI answers grounded in search indexes) is checkable, the exclusivity is not

Editorial verdict: the pricing model is the most persuasive part - paying for keywords rather than seats, with the full toolkit on the cheapest plan, is the opposite of how the large suites charge, and it makes Nightwatch a credible agency tool at €79 to track client rankings alongside AI citations. The Citation Intelligence view is the differentiated idea: treating a lost position as a lost citation, and showing which ranking change moved it, is a more useful framing than a separate AI-visibility dashboard. Budget for two things before subscribing: AI answer allowances are in the low thousands per month, and this is a tracker with companion tools, not an all-in-one suite with a backlink index.
