Overview

Tavus describes itself as the human interface for AI, and its product category is the PAL: a life-like AI agent that can see, hear, respond, and even look like the person it represents.

The stack has three parts - a replica engine trained from a short recording of a real person, a real-time conversational video pipeline that handles vision, turn-taking, speech recognition, text-to-speech, and WebRTC delivery, and rendering models the company lists as Phoenix-4.5 for real-time human rendering alongside Raven-1 and Sparrow-2.

Teams build and deploy through a no-code PAL Maker or the CVI developer API, and Tavus states it powers more than 100,000 developers. For marketers the appeal is personalized video at scale.

A replica is trained once, then reused to generate individualized videos for prospects and customers, or to run a conversational agent that lives on a website or joins a live sales call to answer product questions and drive conversion.

Several features matter for on-camera work: presentation mode lets a PAL present a slide deck, browser mode lets it open your product, share its screen, and click through while talking, and a Google Meets integration brings PALs into meetings.

A knowledge base and memory carry context between conversations, while Magic Canvas, internet search, and audio-visual perception make the interaction feel less like a static avatar. The honest caveats are commercial and operational.

Usage is metered in minutes of conversational video and generation plus pay-as-you-go charges, so cost scales with conversation volume rather than seats, and real-time video is compute-heavy enough that concurrent streams are capped by tier.

Replica quality depends on the source footage and on getting consent from the person being replicated, which is an ethical and legal step rather than a technical one.

A separate consumer PALs subscription also sits alongside the developer platform, which can confuse buyers evaluating it for business use.

It suits video-led marketing, sales, and enablement teams rather than teams looking for a general marketing suite.

Use Cases

Generating personalized video outreach for sales and ABM at a scale that filming individual videos would never allow

Running a conversational sales assistant on a website that answers product questions and drives conversion

Building interactive product demos where the PAL opens the app, shares its screen, and walks a buyer through it

Training one brand spokesperson replica and reusing it across campaigns, onboarding, and localisation

Scaling customer-facing or internal simulations, such as interview screening and learning and development role-play

Who Is This For

Sales and demand-generation teams personalizing outreach with video

Marketing teams producing video creative with a consistent AI spokesperson

Product marketing teams building interactive demos and guided onboarding

Enablement and learning teams running scalable conversation simulations

Developers and product teams embedding conversational video agents through the API

Key Features

Digital Replicas

Train a photorealistic replica from a short recording and reuse it across videos and live conversations, or start from a stock replica library - 25 on the free tier, 100+ on paid plans.

Real-Time Conversational Video

An out-of-the-box pipeline for vision, turn-taking, and rendering with TTS, LLM, STT, ASR, and WebRTC, so a PAL can hold a natural, low-latency spoken conversation on camera.

Memory and Knowledge Base

Attach knowledge and instructions and let prior conversations carry forward, so a PAL remembers a customer and answers with context instead of restarting every session.

Presentation and Browser Mode

Have a PAL present a slide deck face to face, or open your product, share its screen, and click through it while talking, which is useful for demos and guided onboarding.

No-Code Maker and Developer API

Build and deploy in the no-code PAL Maker, or integrate the CVI developer API with whitelabeled access to embed conversational video agents inside your own product.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Turns one replica training into unlimited personalized video and live conversational agents, which is a different job from static AI video generation
  • Published, meterable pricing: a free tier, Starter at $59 per month, and Growth at $397 per month plus pay as you go, as read on tavus.io/pricing on 14 September 2026
  • The real-time pipeline is packaged, combining vision, turn-taking, rendering, TTS, LLM, STT, ASR, and WebRTC instead of leaving teams to assemble them
  • Marketing-relevant features including presentation mode, browser mode, Google Meets, memory, and a knowledge base
  • The company states it powers more than 100,000 developers and lists healthcare agents with HIPAA compliance alongside sales, interview, and training use cases

Cons

  • Costs scale with usage: conversational minutes and video generation are metered and paid plans add pay-as-you-go charges on top of the monthly fee
  • Real-time video is compute-heavy, so concurrency is capped by tier - up to 3 streams on Starter and up to 10 on Growth
  • A convincing replica needs good source footage and explicit consent from the person being replicated, which is an ethical and legal step rather than just a technical one
  • A separate consumer PALs subscription (free, $20, and $50 per month) sits alongside the developer platform, which can confuse buyers evaluating it for business use

Tavus is the clearest move we have seen from generated video clips to live agents. Training one replica and then reusing it for personalized video, a website sales assistant, and live conversational demos is a genuinely different capability from the avatar-video tools in this library, and the pipeline is packaged rather than hand-built: vision, turn-taking, rendering, TTS, LLM, STT, ASR, and WebRTC in one stack. The company states it powers more than 100,000 developers.

Our caveat is that Tavus is metered and compute-bound. When we read tavus.io/pricing on 14 September 2026, the free tier allowed 25 minutes of conversational video, Starter was $59 per month and Growth $397 per month, both plus pay as you go, with concurrency capped at three streams on Starter and ten on Growth. Add the consent and footage requirements for replicas and a separate consumer PALs subscription alongside the developer platform, and this is a tool to pilot against real conversation volume.
