Overview
DeskcommCRM is the self-hosted answer to seat-priced WhatsApp CRMs: instead of renting a conversation platform per user, you install the whole sales desk on a server you own.
Read on deskcomm.com.br on 27 September 2026, the product describes itself as a living system, and the rules are unusually concrete.
An AI agent reads the conversation before it replies, runs seven guardrails before every outbound message, and moves the lead stage itself.
Each guardrail evaluation becomes a durable, exportable record - including the ones that blocked a send - so a manager can audit what an agent said and why, which is exactly the gap that makes most WhatsApp bots unusable in a sales process.
When the agent should not act alone it hands the request to a human with a summary of what happened, what was agreed, which objections came up and what the next step is, rather than dumping the raw thread.
A Radar view classifies every open request as critical, at risk or in flight based on time without interaction and what is still pending, and an activity timeline records every meaningful change - so follow-up is driven by the current state of the pipeline instead of last month report.\n\nThe engineering claims are testable because the code is public.
When we checked the GitHub API on 27 September 2026, github.com/melgarafael/DeskcommCRM reported 4,058 stars, 989 forks, an MIT licence, TypeScript as the main language, a repository created on 28 April 2026 and a last push the same day we looked.
The repository description calls it an open-source AI sales OS and an alternative to Kommo, Octadesk and Intercom, with WhatsApp handled through WAHA, MCP-ready endpoints, multi-tenancy and LGPD alignment.
The vendor site points each claim at a file: tenant isolation is tested on every change with 364 invariant tests in CI - one test creates two organisations and proves one sees zero rows of the other, with a control case proving the rows exist - the seven pre-send guardrails live in lib/agent-engine/guardrails/before-send.ts, and the upgrade path is exercised in CI rather than merely documented.
Installation is one command on a VPS: clone the repo, run install.sh from the hostgator-setup-kit, and the script checks dependencies, generates secrets, applies the database, creates the first admin, brings up the containers and wires the scheduled automation task, with HTTPS issued on first access.
The documented footprint is seven containers, roughly 150 MB per WhatsApp session and 4 GB of RAM recommended - the stack boots on 2 GB but the site says it runs at the edge.\n\nPricing is the part that will surprise most buyers.
Read on deskcomm.com.br pricing on 27 September 2026, the software is free under the MIT licence with no paid tier, no gated feature and no per-seat charge: what you pay for is the VPS and the AI keys you consume, and the vendor makes the argument that five seats or fifty cost the same server.
Note the discrepancy we found: topai.tools lists DeskComm as Freemium, while the official site states plainly that there is no paid tier - we go with the vendor page and flag the difference.
Agencies are explicitly welcomed: the MIT licence allows hosting for third parties and charging for it, and two .env variables change the name and logo across the interface.
The honest limitations are self-hosting and scope.
WhatsApp is the only conversation channel, there is no managed cloud or vendor SLA, documentation and community are Portuguese-first although the site carries English and Spanish versions, branding is per installation rather than per organisation, and colour or font changes require working in the design system.
For a team that already runs its own infrastructure and sells by WhatsApp, that trade is favourable; for a team that wants a support line, it is not.
Use Cases
Running WhatsApp inbound on one desk where agents answer, qualify and advance the lead stage without a human re-typing anything
Catching stalled deals with the Radar view before they become losses, classified by risk rather than by last month report
Auditing what an AI agent promised a customer, including the messages its own guardrails blocked
Giving a mixed human and AI sales team one activity timeline instead of two systems that disagree
Standing up client WhatsApp sales desks as an agency with per-installation branding under the MIT licence
Who Is This For
Sales and revenue ops leads who already sell through WhatsApp and want agents inside their own infrastructure
Cross-border and LatAm-facing teams where WhatsApp is the primary buying channel and customer data must stay on their server
Agencies that host and white-label sales infrastructure for clients
Privacy- and compliance-conscious operators who need an audit trail for every automated customer message
Technical teams comfortable running a VPS, containers, backups and their own AI provider keys
Key Features
WhatsApp AI Sales Agents
Agents answer incoming WhatsApp messages, qualify the lead and advance the pipeline stage themselves, running entirely inside your own infrastructure.
Seven Pre-Send Guardrails
Every outbound message passes seven checks in a fixed, versioned order, and each evaluation becomes an exportable record - including the guardrails that blocked a send.
Radar View
Every open request is classified critical, at risk or in flight by time without interaction and pending items, so stalled leads surface as they happen rather than in a monthly report.
Human Handoff With Context
When judgement is required the agent escalates with a summary of what happened, what was agreed and the proposed next step, not the raw message thread.
One-Command Self-Hosting
install.sh checks dependencies, generates secrets, applies the schema, creates the first admin and starts the containers; update.sh backs up the database first and the upgrade path is tested in CI.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free and MIT-licensed with no paid tier, no gated features and no per-seat charge
- AI sending decisions are auditable by design - guardrail results, including blocks, are stored records

- Multi-tenant and MCP-ready, with tenant isolation covered by 364 CI invariant tests
- Agencies can white-label an installation for clients and charge for hosting it
Cons
- WhatsApp is the only conversation channel - no email, Instagram, voice or web chat agents
- You run the infrastructure: VPS sizing, backups, updates and AI provider keys are your responsibility, with no managed cloud option or vendor SLA
- Documentation and community are Portuguese-first, though the site is published in English and Spanish
- Branding is per installation rather than per organisation, and colour or font changes need design-system work

Verified from deskcomm.com.br/en on 27 September 2026: pricing states the software is free and MIT-licensed with no paid tier and no gated feature, the documented footprint is 4 GB of RAM recommended, seven containers and about 150 MB per WhatsApp session, installation is one command from the hostgator-setup-kit, and the site cites 364 invariant tests in CI, tenant isolation tests, seven pre-send guardrails in lib/agent-engine/guardrails/before-send.ts and an update script that backs up the database before an idempotent schema reapply and health check. The GitHub API on the same day reported github.com/melgarafael/DeskcommCRM at 4,058 stars, 989 forks, MIT licence, TypeScript, created 28 April 2026 and last pushed 27 September 2026. topai.tools classifies it as Freemium, which we flag as a discrepancy with the vendor page.

Editorial verdict: DeskcommCRM is the most credible self-hosted WhatsApp sales stack we have reviewed, and the reason is the audit trail rather than the agent. Most WhatsApp bots fail in a sales process because nobody can prove what was promised to a customer; here every guardrail decision, including a blocked message, is stored and exportable, and the Radar view turns silence into a visible risk category. The economics invert the category too - no per-seat fee means a fifty-person sales floor costs the same server as a five-person one. Our reservations are structural: you own the VPS, the backups, the upgrades and the AI keys; WhatsApp is the only channel; the community and docs are Portuguese-first; and for a project created in April 2026 that is a lot of operational responsibility to take on. Install it for a WhatsApp-led sales desk where auditability is the point, not for a team that wants a vendor to call when the server is down.
